Arkansas is rich in natural beauty. I think this is a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly in its dark form. The plant is a Royal Catchfly which is also a favorite for hummingbirds.

This trip was the first major workout for the digital single lens reflex camera I had bought a few months earlier. There is a large difference in responsiveness between what are called "digicams" or digital cameras with the lens built in and digital SLRs which takes interchangeable lenses. When you press the button to take the picture with a digicam it seems to me that it forms a committee, holds a first meeting to decide on an agenda and then eventually notices that someone wants to take a picture. The opportunity to catch something like a butterfly feeding is pretty slim. The digital SLR just takes the picture.
