A species of Louisiana Iris was recommended as the state flower for Louisiana and recognizing the sensitivities of magnolia lovers, the magnolia, already the state flower, was recommended as the Louisiana state tree. The effort failed and the magnolia was retained as the state flower. As consolation the Louisiana Iris was named the state wildflower. I think the iris shown here is a hybrid so I have included it among domesticated flowers. It was next to our driveway in Indianapolis. |
