I Didn't Have The Right Lens At Sanibel But So What?

Photography is about light and there is light at night as well as during the day, just not as much of it. I've been doing more night photography recently and we went down to the lighthouse on Sanibel to see what we could get. I wasn't getting anything interesting with the lighthouse itself so I followed DeWitt Jones' advice and turned around. Here is what I saw. Please note that even without the Canon EF f/2.8 L 300 mm image stabilized lens I was able to get a decent bird shot.

I hadn't considered the possibility of wildlife night photography but there was this blue heron, doing one of the things they do best, standing stalk still. And then it moved. It walks slowly, thrusting its head forward, much the way a chicken or pigeon does. This accounts for the "multiple" images below.
